**ON HOLD BUT FOR A VERY GOOD REASON**
I have not abandoned this project, quite the opposite. As I began to add more I started to realize that I could do a lot of the things that I had wanted from the beginning. Think the opposite of feature creep.
So, I toyed around with a few different prototypes. Just trying to get a feel for what seemed right. I also came to the stark realization that my formatting for the graphics in this prototype are a mess.
So, I completely redesigned the graphics. Brought them way more in-line with the NES aesthetic I always had in mind.
I'm still working on a playable prototype for the new version. In the meantime I've had the idea of uploading some of the rejected projects along the way so you can see the evolution of both the game design and art style.
For now, here's a sneak peek:

The world has changed, technology is fueled by the newfound magical mineral Tarrecite. Though, its discovery came at a cost. Ancient evil beings have woken, drawn by the magic of Tarrecite. The Great Arcane War has begun and mankind must fight for survival.

This proof of concept demo includes the first two missions of the full game. Explore a ruined world as you battle strange creatures, mine and collect Tarrecite, upgrade your weapons with the magical minerals, and face off against a massive ancient bosses.

Or, enter Endless Mode and fight through ever increasing waves of enemies. How long can you last?
